Gazespotting Demo!
In Brainspotting, we will often either use a pointer to identify a brainspot or will find a gazespot off in space. Here is a demonstration of Cori finding a gazespot and processing for a few minutes. You can notice micro-reflexive movements as her system works to regulate.

I often have clients ask about which one would be better for them and we talk about their symptoms, their therapy goals, and the differences between BSP and EMDR.

Bibliotherapy: Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement by Kevin M. Gilmartin
The last few years have been challenging for law enforcement agencies and officers (LEOs) across our country. LEOs deal with the “maddest, baddest, and saddest” constituents in society. LEOs have a high stress, high stakes job. They are trained and prepared for survival on the streets, but are given little if any training on emotional survival in this high risk role. The current national rates of suicide for LEOs are 2x that of the general population. In his book, Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement: A Guide for Officers and Their Families, police psychologist, Kevin M. Gilmartin states we need to “stop breaking cops.” His book encourages LEOs and their families to make self-directed decisions on how life can function and strategy implementation to insure emotional survival.

As I reflect back, it is not surprising to me that I have a history of studying and working within and around the criminal justice system in different capacities. I am called to pursue new avenues and ways of supporting local law enforcement and first responders! This is a population that I believe deeply deserves and needs additional support. Anxiety: A Metabolic Disorder? Not a Psychiatric Disorder.
I thought this article was worth posting because my training background does not deem anxiety a psychiatric disorder, and philosophically, I believe there are ways to treat anxiety besides medications. I conceptualize anxiety as an overacting stress/threat response due to trauma or ongoing stress. I think dietary deficiencies can create stress in our bodies and that prolonged stress hormones wreak havoc in our bodies. Pointed supplementation can be a meaningful part of anxiety treatment along with psychotherapy. Anxiety: A Metabolic Disorder? BRAINSPOTTING is typically done with a brainspotting therapist, but SELF-SPOTTING is a simple and effective mindfulness-based practice that leads to self-regulation that can be done alone. After 10-15 minutes of self-spotting many people experience noticeable shifts.

We all know that if we get a cut on our skin, we should clean the wound, we might put on some antibiotic ointment, if it’s more serious we might go to the ER, but there is a natural process of healing that happens in our bodies where new cells are generated and the wound closes even if we’re left with a scar.

Unfortunately, many of us are touched by infidelity, cheating, and affairs. Just like any trauma, there is a systemic injury to the whole person system, the impacts can be physical behavioral, emotional, psychological, spiritual, cognitive, or relational. There can be damage to your sense of self and worldview and other nasty symptoms that can be hard to move through and overcome.

Dr. Fredric Schiffer is a psychiatrist and teaches the theory and practice of Dual-Brain Psychology. In his book, Of Two Minds he describes how after reviewing the split-brain studies of the 1960s, patients who had their corpus callosums cut, manifested two separate minds and personalities!
He believes that most of us have two minds, one linked to each hemisphere; one that is more mature, reasonable, and present orientated, and one that is more childlike, emotional, and holds traumatic experience. He shows how this explains changes in mood and personality where someone might seem like two different people.
