FOOD! How to Be Less Overwhelmed by Feeding Yourself and Others!

Our food choices impact our emotional, physical, and mental health. We need diets rich in various nutrients for optimal body functioning, to build and repair tissues, to create neurotransmitters and hormones, and to move out toxins. By eating healthy meals, we support our bodies.

Great to know, right? And yet, so many of us eat like crap! What I hear from clients is that the process of planning meals, selecting recipes, grocery shopping, and preparing meals can be overwhelming.

Well, you’re in luck because everything food is my passion and I have a weekly system that I use and will share with you here!

STEP 1: Educate yourself on food. There are many articles, blogs, and books, but here’s some simple tips from a past blog.

STEP 2: Survey your freezer, fridge, and pantry making a list of items you have and another list of items to buy.

STEP 3: Make a list of menu ideas for the week. Consult your calendar for the next week and see if you have any special events to work around? Hosting people? Busy and not much time to cook one night? Then note the items you already have that might go bad if you don’t use them up. Put your menu list up somewhere you can see. On the fridge or on a chalkboard in the kitchen.

STEP 4: Find recipes and finish your menu. I look to do a mix of things that are quick, produce leftovers, and from different flavor groups i.e. Mexican, Indian, BBQ, etc. Start collecting recipes you enjoy. There are many wonderful cookbooks, cooking magazines, and online recipes. I often use www.allrecipes.com or https://goop.com/recipes/.

STEP 5: Finish your list of items to buy.

STEP 6: Grocery Shop! Stick to the items only on your list. Make sure you’re full when you go to the grocery store! I promise this will save you money and keep you from buying junk you don’t need.

STEP 7: Each prior day, decide which menu items you’ll prepare the next day and do any prep or take things out to dethaw.

Like most things, being intentional creates change and benefit. If you are serious about feeling better. Get serious about caring for your basic needs and providing your body the nutrition it needs! Need support? Coriander Living is here for you. Let’s talk food!
