Trauma and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
Trauma is not what happens to us, it is what happens inside of us in response to an event that felt threatening or overwhelming. As human beings, we have billions of experiences and we are meant to draw adaptive learning from these experiences, yet sometimes we have maladaptive responses that leave us feeling stuck, rigid, fearful, or unable to let something go.
These maladaptive responses might look like negative self-beliefs or worldviews, “I’m unwanted, the world is unsafe,” nightmares, overwhelming emotions (panic, grief), or physical pain (headaches, GI issues).
EMDR is an information processing therapeutic approach that allows the whole person to reprocess disturbing experiences shifting them into adaptative outcomes. EMDR treats most types of symptoms such as anxiety, grief, and PTSD. If you are seeking treatment beyond talk therapy, results, and true healing EMDR may be for you.
