I’m on a big Brené Brown, Atlas of the Heart kick with my recent blog posts! I thought it was fitting to blog on love and heartbreak for Valentine’s Day!

“Everywhere we learn that love is important, and yet we are bombarded by its failure. In the realm of the political, among the religious, in our families, and in our romantic lives, we see little indication that love informs decisions, strengthens our understanding of community, or keeps us together. This bleak picture in no way alters the nature of our longing. We still hope that love will prevail. We still believe in love’s promise.” -bell hooks, All About Love

What a powerful quote! We all feel it. Love. It’s longing. Heartbreak when love is lost. But what is love anyway?

According to Brown, there is debate among researchers if love is even an emotion. Brown defines love as “Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can be cultivated between two people…” She talks about love being a mystery and us only being able to love another if we have self-love. She shares that “The brokenhearted are the bravest among us- they dared to love.” May you dare to love!
